For only three tracks, Empires covers quite a spectrum of sentiments. Crank-it-up, dance club worthy Made in Chelsea and Criminal are both edgy and playful. The hook in Made hooked me and I found myself singing along by the second listen.
Rougher hewn and more hard-hitting than 80’s synth-pop these tracks but you’ll still want a mirrorball, flashing lights, and a kick ass sound system—heavy on the bass. The hidden gem however, on this EP is Constellations with its radical shift in sound and attitude. Lilting vocals float over luminant keys and strings.
This Jekyll and Hyde compilation that is Empires is most intriguing indeed. Noelle Ellis, GiggingNI.com
