Belfast’s The Dandy Horses set for Ethiopia gig

thedandyhorsesBelfast-based contemporary folk outfit The Dandy Horses have been selected to perform at the Irish Ambassador’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Ball at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 21st March 2015.

The charity event is described as the highlight of the Ethiopian social calendar and the band are being flown out to entertain 700 guests at the renowned Sheraton Hotel in the Ethiopian capital, organised by the Irish Embassy. Furthermore, the band will also be performing at local Ethiopian music clubs in addition to the main gala event.

Speaking about the band’s first international gig, band member Sean Quinn admits that the band are both ‘delighted and surprised’ that the band’s first performance outside of Northern Ireland will take place in Africa. He explains that the band submitted live video footage for consideration upon being made aware of the opportunity and were ‘excited beyond belief’ when organisers made contact to make arrangements for travel.

He states that The Dandy Horses were still reeling from their sold out ‘Winter Waltz’ single launch at the Sunflower Bar in December, when confirmation of the Ethiopian event was received.

Prior to flying out to Addis Abbaba, The Dandy Horses are set to play perform at the Belfast Nashville Festival at the Empire Music Hall on 7th March at 2pm, with other local bands, The Sandrunners and Runabay also on the bill.
