Welcome to Sunflowerfest 2015.

With Sunflowerfest closing its gates for 2015, we now get a chance to look back at all the bands playing over the weekend – first stop, Friday 31st July 2015.

Three days, three stages and acts playing throughout the day and into the night, Sunflowerfest boasted a wide range of talent, from local acts to bands from Japan, in beautiful surroundings with crafts and activities to keep everyone engaged during the quieter times – there even was a nice campfire!

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? “Playing the barn stage at Sunflower this year was unreal.  The energy of the crowd was on another level, and it’s nThe Titanics 4ot every gig you get a one more song chant at the end of your set. We effin loved it!”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “This years festival was one of the best we’ve been to yet, all the acts we got to see left us grinning like losers, and the atmosphere around the festival was buzzing from the moment we got there until we left.”

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? “After being asked to be a part of Sunflowerfest this year I was very excited! I had never actually been to a proper festival before let alone play at one! The Audience interaction was great, there was a real buzz of excitement around the whole festival. The team were also very welcoming and made the day all the more fun and worthwhile!”

David Goodwin 1What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “I think Sunflower Festival is an amazing experience for all ages whether you’ve been playing music for years or whether your bringing your kids along to immerse them in the music! There had obviously been a lot of effort put into setting up as well with funky art and graffiti everywhere adding colour to the place. There had also obviously been a lot of effort into getting together all the brilliant bands and musicians that were clearly having a great time on all of the stages”

It was an amazing feeling belting out our songs into the great outdoors while people of all ages danced or rocked or did whatever their feet wanted.”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “It’s a superb festival, very professionally run and loads of fun. The huge, diverse collection of music that you can hear really is impressive. What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “It’s an amazing opportunity to see what Ireland has to offer musically, and the standard in my opinion is out of this world. R51, Hot Cops, and Wood Burning. Waow!”

Green Monkey – 4:00pm – Barn Stage

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? “We played Sunflowerfest last year and it was something we all REALLY wanted to play again. It didn’t disappoint. Such a relaxed, welcoming feel to it and everything ran smoothly for us; no stress or hassle. It’s also nice that it’s just down the road from us. The barn stage is great to play on, it’s a little easier engaging with the crowd having an enclosed venue and we find those type of set-ups more fun to play. Green Monkey 2We’re grateful for the support from everyone who got to catch us and to the organisers for having us back this year.”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “Sunflowerfest has a unique vibe about it. It feels very cosy and welcoming. Its about the right size too, it definitely feels like a full, legit festival experience but you don’t have to put up with some of the pain that comes with the bigger festivals. We stayed the Friday night and got to watch most of the other bands that evening. King Kong Company were absolutely deadly and Dreadzone closed the day perfectly. We will be back next year, whether we are lucky enough to play at it again or not.”

Runabay – 4:35pm – Main Stage

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? “Despite being one of the first main stage bands on on the opening evening, and the downpour that accompanied, it was a very pleasant atmosphere and we had a great reception from those braving the weather.”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “It was Runabay’s first time playing Sunflower, and the first time attending for most of the band. It impressed us such that we definitely plan to return, whether that be as a spectators or performers. As a band we would most definitely like to return if invited.”

Remedy – 5:15pm – Barn Stage

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? Really enjoyed playing this year. When people ask, what does your band sound like? we kinda find it hard to explain as our genre is Rap/Dubstep/Spokenword but the general consensus from people who came to see us this year at SunflowerFest was Rage Against The Machine meets the Prodigy. We like to create a high energy and intense atmosphere. The crowd at SunflowerFest picked up on this immediately and the response was unbelievable. We have been gigging quite a bit this summer but SunflowerFest has been the highlight so far.”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? SunflowerFest is a little gem and defo has the Glasto vibe going on, It is all about the quality of music. This festival is like a ‘Mini Glastonbury’.”

King Kong Company – 7:10pm – Main Stage

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? “Brilliant…this time we kinda knew what to expect from the Sunflower crowd after last year’s gig. The heavens opened just before we went on and we got a rain shower from hell but it didn’t stop the crowd from coming out and giving us a good old boogie. The sun came out in the end and it was great to see all those smiling faces enjoying it with us. It’s great to see all the generations of people there appreciating our music. We even had some of the Dreadzone guys bopping away down by the sound desk and a great troop of young folk up the front. As it was last year it was a pleasure yet again to take to the stage.”

kingkong 5What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? “Fantastic!! There’s such a great family and community feel about the festival. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly, its something very special. The crowd are fantastic and everyone backstage – the organisers, the volunteers, the stage guys, security, the whole gang – make you feel you are part of that community straight away. I have to make a special shout out to Nanu Nanu and Dreadzone on the Friday night for amazing sets. It was such a pity we couldn’t stick around for the rest of the weekend to soak up the rest of what Sunflower had to offer. “

What did you make of your appearance at Sunflowerfest this year? When the heavens came unhinged over the previous act, and everyone ran for cover, we thought we might be playing to the sheep… DecomposingParis 4but thankfully the clouds broke, the crowds returned, and we got the chance to play to a really wonderful audience.”

What do you think of Sunflowerfest as a festival? Sunflowerfest is a truly enchanting little festival, possibly the best atmosphere of any festival we’ve ever played, and behind the scenes it’s a warm and well oiled machine.”
