Josh Dodge – Self-Titled

a1962575489_2Gentle and slightly sombre, Josh Dodge releases his inner feelings to the soft sweet sound of morning guitar chords in his track ‘Let It Go’ before picking up the beat in “Back” and “Nothing’s Easy” to become more sing-song and potentially festival-like with the right development. “Hello” skips into melodic indie-pop and is the definite stand-out track on the EP, mixing some of the goods things that create a popular song before the experimental and risky “Matador” closes the listing with a basement-like vibe. It’s hard to see which direction Josh Dodge is aiming for as he mixes a number of different sounds I wouldn’t be comfortable putting together. Regardless, with the right focus and determination there’s potential there. Mark Dunn,
