CYMBALS – The Age of Fracture

TheAgeOfFracture-FinalThe Age of Fracture, is the follow up to the 2011 debut album from the London four piece. From the beginning it becomes obvious that this album is upbeat and fun. Songs such as ‘Empty Space’ and ‘The 5%’ radiate a disco-infused sound that inevitably makes you want to dance along. Yet, the collaboration of synthetics and guitar on songs like ‘Winter of 98’ manage to portray a real nostalgic feeling. Yet this nostalgia suddenly moves onto a brooding mood evidently seen in tracks such as ‘The City’ and ‘Call Me’. ‘The Age of Fracture’ is a fun and upbeat album, yet has its serious moment. The decision to move towards synth pop could have been disastrous however one listen to this album and you can tell that they have got it spot on. Alannah Morrow,
