Lazy Flies – Kill Your Darlings

1097972_687508381275828_322497233_nIt’s been a while since I heard anything this fresh and original. Within a 5 track EP the Lazy Flies have combined the drama of Queen with the harmonic genius and lyrical esoteric whimsy of the Smashing Pumpkins.

The sound makes a lot of use of complex and well mixed vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar, but to write it like that doesn’t convey the energy which the EP manages to contain. The occasional string part is reminiscent of Tonight, Tonight or any of the more otherworldy of the tracks on the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The opening track is purely vocal which was bold but draws the listener in well whilst the EP closes with a twinkling outro that makes you feel you have drifted into a dream.

If you listen to only 5 tracks this week, these should be them. Eve Williams,
