OPEN HOUSE FESTIVAL: The Friel Sisters
Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel are three young and very exciting traditional musicians born and brought up in Glasgow but whose family roots are firmly entrenched in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
As demonstrated on their brilliant recent self-titled debut album, they play a mixture of tunes on fiddle, flute and uilleann pipes, interspersed with songs in English and Irish, many from their family repertoire. They have been also greatly influenced by The Bothy band, Altan and Planxty as well as singers such as the Ní Dhomhnaill and Keane sisters.
The Friel Sisters played The Sunflower Bar on the 19th June in Belfast as part of the annual Open House Festival and we sent Tremaine Gregg down to take some photos.
