Vega by This is Me Dead is that wonderful, quintessential Northern Irish sound; lyrical poetry and vocal delivery whipped together with the post punk sounds of American rock n’ roll. Bands like This is Me Dead, and A Plastic Rose exemplify this next generation of rock; picking up where bands like Green Day left off.
Vocally it’s a cool blend of Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and Peter Murphy of Bauhaus. Case in point, the title track, Vega is rather reminiscent of the earlier sounds of Snow Patrol, in particular the song, Spitting Games. The track, Berlin features ass-kicking drumming and high frequency guitar riffs countered by smoother, slower, deeper vocals.
Shallow Run dips into the pop rock end of the pool with its summery, surf-vibe; playful melody and speedy guitar riffs just for fun, not to mention the pulse racing drums. It’s also the tune that reminds me most of APR. This is Me Dead are simply a great rock band with a great sound poised and ready to join the ranks of the aforementioned greats.
