Imagine Arts Festival – the only event of its kind in Northern Ireland – is taking place at The Ulster Hall next Tuesday 20 October.
Highlights include the Imagine Ukulele Orchestra, the Imagine Chorus, live music and storytelling while participants can brush up on old skills and hobbies and discover new ones during workshops that include singing photography and creative writing.
Newry woman Eileen McCourt, is living proof that you’re never too old to add a new string to your bow! Back in March, Eileen, who recently retired, saw an advertisement for the Imagine Ukulele Orchestra, Northern Ireland’s first ever seniors Ukulele Orchestra. She decided to give it a go and now she’s preparing to perform at The Ulster Hall as part of the Imagine Arts Festival.
Eileen explains, “I wanted to embrace some of the things that I never had the opportunity to do during my working career. When I heard about the Ukulele Orchestra I jumped at the chance. I love all kinds of music. I would have loved to have played a musical instrument but never had the opportunity. I can’t wait to perform at The Ulster Hall and follow in the footsteps of all those famous musicians and performers. It just goes to show, it’s never too late!”
Imagine Arts Festival will also feature Creative Stations – providing details on a wide variety of absorbing activities and skills for older people to try – and information stands which will offer support and advice from organisations and agencies offering projects and services specifically for older people.
All Imagine Arts Festival activities and workshops are free of charge. However booking is required for the workshops as spaces are limited. To book workshop places phone: 028 9033 4455 or call in at The Ulster Hall Box Office.
Imagine Arts Festival 2015 is presented in partnership with Kaleidoscope and supported by Belfast City Council and Age-Friendly Belfast. Kaleidoscope is supported by The Big Lottery Fund People`s Millions.
