As soon as the funky intro started with the sixties-esque backing vocals, I knew I was going to love this single. St John’s vocals is reminiscent of Dusty Springfield meets Brenda Holloway with some old school The Box Tops thrown in.
The lyrics are extremely relatable and easy to empathise with. For example ”tell me what are you waiting for I don’t want you hanging round no more.” The majority of us can relate to the scenario of a failing relationship when you finally get a wake-up call and realise that the person “blew it”.
The funky bass and crashing of the cymbals reminds me of something you would see performed at the legendary Woodstock festival. The single will have you tapping your feet and singing along in no time. St John’s vocals are soulful and classic with the lyrics being very relatable for a 21st century audience. All in all the single is 100% a must listen and Amanda St John is definitely an artist to follow.
