A Northern Light – Paranoia

A Northern Light are a Belfast based three piece who have been gracing the local stages since 2010 and in that time they have been described as everything from electro rock, alt rock to nu-metal with a touch of pop punk.

The truth of the matter is that they are a band that just cannot be pigeon-holed as their sound is constantly evolving and growing yet still is specifically them. After spending a year in the studio the trio are getting set to release their new album ‘Kingdoms‘ which will be a two part affair with ‘Part One’ coming out in the Spring and ‘Part Two’ in the Autumn of 2016.

Paranoia‘ is the first single from the album and it is nothing short of a sonic call to arms. From the opening bars of acoustic guitar and synth to the fervent drum and bass rhythm by Omar Ben Hassine that often characterises an ANL song, it is fast paced, heartfelt and honest. Frontman and guitarist Darren Dohertys voice has never sounded better, soaring and impassioned over melodic guitar, complimented by the labyrinth of synth, backing vocals and Colm Laverty’s driving bassline.

The single recently gained airplay from Radio 1’s Phil Taggart and if it is a taster of what we can hope for from the new album then roll on Spring! In the meantime ‘Paranoia‘ is released on February 19th with an official launch show at the Empire, Belfast on Saturday 20th February with support from Go Swim, R51 and Palaces.

A Northern Light are noted for their high octane shows, and with new material to air you’d be mad to miss it!

I'm a 30 something woman living in Belfast and I love music and live gigs. I have an eclectic taste from Joni Mitchell to Katy Perry, Prince to the Dead Kennedys, the Twilight Sad to The Chemical Brothers and everything in between. The music coming out of Scotland at the minute is really floating my proverbial boat as is our home grown music scene.
