Brixton band Alabama 3 are pleased to announce the ’20 Years of Alabama 3 Tour’ is coming to Belfast’s Limelight 1 on Friday 11th November 2016.
The band play a blend of country, blues, electronic and spoken word styles, and achieved huge success when the producers of hit TV series The Sopranos chose their track ‘Woke Up This Morning’ as the shows opening credits.
“20 years and still standing, standing on the edge, on the point of no return. So where to next, when the end to everything is so inevitable? None of us are dead, which has surprised us more than it has you. It’s been 20 years since we started crafting the bones of our first baby – Exile On Coldharbour Lane and here comes our 14th album – how is that possible?
We have tempted dark fate to the point where it has lost its comedic value. We have hurt so many, and lost so much. As the cold light of day hits us in the bathroom window, the reflection is enough to make us recoil under the sheets, until we are cloaked by soft night again. Has anything been gained? We’ve always had bad skin. And so we hang together by a cruel thread whose length we all miscalculated, wondering – why us? We’ve chased more pipes than dreams.
It seems fitting now, to travel back to the beginning – the scene of the crime where one Welsh knob head, recently excommunicated from the Mormon Church and fresh out of law school, meets a Scottish schemey poet at a squat rave in Brixton. They like pills and Blues. B.B. King, Hank Williams, Bobby Rush, Rosco Gordon, Howlin’ Wolf, Ma Rainey and Fats Domino are all discussed with fervor. The first match is lit and Alabama 3 find roots in roots music. After courting American record deals, theme tunes to hit TV series, BAFTA awards and the departure and re-entry of more members than any band should ever carry, we find ourselves where the old Blues man told us we’d be– penniless with little reason left in our charred brains.
In September 2016, we release our 13th studio album Blues on our independent label Hostage Music. Recorded with the full band in Dean Street Studios, we’ve essentially made a straight up Rock’n’Roll record full of chain gang clarion calls, bittersweet dope laments, sleazy whiskey rhythms, whaling harmonicas and the obligatory Delta slide. And you can bet your bottom dollar that those seedy acid lines are still ripping through the foundations, branding us with a hot poker.
We’re finally ready to take this record on the road, as well as celebrating 20 years of the songs that have kept us in good company for two decades. It’s been too long since Ireland got to party with the full band, so what better place to kick our tour off than the capital of blues – Belfast! Here we will commence an 11-date tour of the UK and Ireland, with a full list of O2 shows announced below.
We hope you’re ready for the biggest Alabama 3 party to date.”
