The new EP Gelatine by Looking Svelte is like a visit to the modern art wing of an art museum. Splashy vibrant sound strokes and thick textured splatters like an auditory Jackson Pollack painting. Or possibly an enjoyable acid trip.
Enveloped beneath these experimental noise and synth-heavy sounds lies discernable pop melodies. Cover track Stop the Calvary displays this most acutely; however Denton is my personal favorite with its layered waves of echo and hum.
This collection of tracks is a gift that keeps on giving. Each listen brings new discoveries, highlighting new notes—literally and figuratively. This is to be savored, to be pondered, to be repeated.
