Riot Upstairs, by Omagh 4-piece band Not Today is an audio tapestry of influences with its back to alternative rock basics approach to guitar and drum, grinding and hard hitting riffs all the way through.
Vacillating between genres, Ego blasts on the scene in post-punk glory; whereas tracks Come Down, and Justified feel more comfortable in the grunge genre. Nothing More, Nothing Less is the only track that strays a bit from this expression and reads like a rock ballad. This segues nicely from the post punk tune Behind Closed Doors.
Influences of acts such as Teenage Fanclub and The Undertones can be felt throughout. There’s also a musical nod to artists like The Pixies, and The Strokes.
This unpretentious assemblage of tracks brings something both new and familiar to the table and is an enjoyable listen.
