Review: Noelle – GURU
GURU [GU – meaning dark and RU – meaning light; Out of the darkness into the light…].
GURU, the debut album by Coleraine singer songwriter known only as Noelle is just the ray of sunshine needed in these dark times.
This album reads like a pop-infused cabaret act with Noelle’s pert, stage-worthy vocals. These easy dance pop melodies are embroidered with upbeat, positive, at times rather spiritual lyrics.
The comparisons and influences run the gamut from Kylie Minogue to Basia or Swing Out Sister, and on the track I Will channels a bit of Kate Bush. A hipper Amy Grant with a broader range.
Baby Girl is the only diversion as the sweet, tug-at-the-heart-strings tune. Numerology a spiritual nod to a visit from the other side with a buoyant dance beat. [legend has it that the appearance of 11:11 signifies a heavenly visit from an angel]
Upbeat lyrics and spritely melodies make for a fine collection. A touching ray of light and warmth, with dance beats for a bit of fun.
