Music review: Kerry Hart – Live at the Sky

Irish American songwriter Kerry Hart has recently released a new stunning EP. Inspired by the U2 album ‘The Joshua Tree’, Hart recorded her new songs in the same desert. The EP is full of striking ballads and acoustic folk songs that have that real ‘Irish’ feel to it.

The EP is one with a lot of heart. With every song, Hart really puts all her emotions into it. ‘Burn this to the Ground’ is the leading track. It is a beautifully haunting song which encapsulates the Irish folk sound and builds up a sense of mystery. The strings start of softly whilst beginning to build up, contributing to the tone of the song before transcending into a beautiful finale.

‘Lay Me Down’ really stands out for me. When people think of Irish folk songs, they often think of the story the song tells and ultimately this is why they are so powerful. Harts powerful vocals pulls the listener in until we are captivated to listen to the story that she is telling us.

The whole EP is just one of absolute beauty. The strings, acoustic sound and of course the mesmerising voice of Kerry Hart all come together to create something really special. Definitely an artist to look out for.
