Music Review: Modern Rome – Work in Progress

Modern Rome’s debut single “Work in Progress” boasts an extremely clever amalgamation of genre that sets it aside from just another generic rock title and pushes it to the next level.

The Belfast based band quote a number of influences including Radiohead and Elbow.  The lead vocals are very reminiscent of Guy Garvey but I feel by comparing the guys to another band does them a disservice as it is clear they are trying something different with this single.

Throughout “Work in Progress” you’re constantly switching your focus to hear different aspects of the music.  There is no one band member that is at the forefront as everyone is equally prominent which makes a huge difference to the dynamic of the track.

The juxtaposition of modern guitar solos alongside old school keyboard playing and consistently faultless harmonies “Work in Progress” has the edge that could be what 2018 Belfast needs.
