Get to Know: Michael Cunningham

Singer songwriter Michael Cunningham released his debut album ‘Hidden Treasures’ in 2017. Written some 20 years ago in collaboration with Jim Anderson, the tapes lay in his garage until last year before taking them out and realising that “playing those ancient cassettes and recordings was indeed a light bulb moment. The sound quality and recording factors were terrible, but their themes of love, loss and loneliness were timeless”.

So Michael gave up his career in marketing, set about re-recording the songs and self financed the release of his debut album. He is already a successful singer, performing as frontman of well known Belfast cover band ‘The Unusual Suspects’. They played in front of 33,000 people in 2016 at Belfast City Council’s Halloween Special held at the Titanic Slipway. Quite an achievement. Get to Know Michael Cunningham.
