Get to Know: Taylor Johnson

If there is one thing that local band Brand New Friend, and Taylor Johnson, are known for, it is their incredible energy during their live performances and their sheer dedication to their art.  They have a lot to brag about, including sell out shows, slots on BBC Introducing stages, supporting bands such as Feeder and Pretty Vicious and being signed to record label Xtra Mile.

A guy with a big personality that commands whatever stage he plays on as singer and guitarist.  Ahead of the release of their debut album ‘Seatbelts for Aeroplanes‘ as well as playing a multitude of shows across the UK, now seems the best time to Get to Know Taylor Johnson.

Brand New Friend- Spectrum 17

Name: Taylor Johnson (from Brand New Friend)

Where you’re from: A tiny coastal village called Castlerock

Describe yourself in 5 words or less: Enthusiastic, Sensitive, Determined, Happy, Sad

Favourite band/singer of all time: That’s the big one isn’t it!? Favourite band I’ll say Oasis ~ My favourite singer is Morrissey.

Favourite gig you’ve attended: The Couth at the Oh Yeah Music Centre a few years ago was unreal, they were just perfect that night. I loved Morrissey in Dublin a few years ago too, or Blur in Dublin!

Favourite local artist/band at the moment: I love Sad Tomorrow! A new two piece indie band from the North Coast. Remember the name…

Musician you’d like to collaborate with: I’d like to do a Last Shadow Puppets thing with Van McCann from Catfish and the Bottlemen. I’ll even let him be Alex Turner and I’ll be Miles Kane if he likes.

The last song you listened to: New Order ~ Love Vigilantes.

Last thing you do before going onstage: I’m usually going into Muhammed Ali mode, shadow boxing around the green room & getting in the zone! The rest of the band just walk out and play but I get proper psyched up, like when I used to play football.

The band are just back from a UK tour with Pretty Vicious and have recently supported Feeder on the Irish leg of their ‘Best Of’ tour.

London girl in Belfast. I was born to live in the Seventies and I am obsessed with Stevie Nicks.
