Stendhal Festival - Limavady

Stendhal Festival announces second batch of artists for 2018

Stendhal Festival has announced the second wave of musical acts that will be performing at the award winning event this August 10 and 11 in Limavady, adding to an already stacked line-up which includes Embrace, And So I Watch You From Afar, The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show and loads more.

The new acts range from the legendary to the award winning and the up-and-coming, to some stalwarts of the Northern Irish music scene.

Everyone at Stendhal will be Jammin’ on Friday August 10 courtesy of Headline act, The Wailers.

The Wailers

Steered by famed bassist and founder Aston “Familyman” Barrett and joined in solidarity with original Wailers’ guitarists Julian Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey, The Wailers continue to create musical history.

From 1973 to 1980, Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded, toured and performed before millions of fans worldwide.

Since 1981, Familyman and Junior Marvin have carried on the mission to, “keep The Wailers together,” just as Bob requested, affirming: “By doing that, you keep me alive through the music.”

For over fifty years the Ulster Orchestra has been at the forefront of musical life in Northern Ireland. Founded in 1966, the Orchestra’s sixty three full-time musicians form the region’s only professional symphony orchestra and celebrated its 50th anniversary in the 2016/17 season.

Stendhal is proud to welcome a 20 player ensemble from the Ulster Orchestra to Ballymully Cottage Farm this year along with selected guests to perform something very special indeed.

We’ll be revealing the guest performers in the weeks leading up to the event.

Also added to the bill are recent Radio 2 Folk award winners Lankum, who return to Ballymully Cottage farm having made their debut as lynched there in 2016.

Joining them will be the sensational Jealous of the Birds who recently signed to major label Atlantic records, Cormac Neeson, The Answer frontman who is currently focusing on Solo Material, the Energetic Brand New Friend, Limavady’s own Rachel O’Connor and Loco and Jam,  and a multitude of acts covering a wide spectrum of musical genres, including;

Festival director Ross Parkhill said that he was beyond happy with the line-up to date, adding that there are still a few more surprises to be announced.

“We pride ourselves on being a value for money event,” said Ross, “and when you combine this second Line-up announcement with what we already have on the bill, I think it’s safe to say that you will be getting plenty of bang for your buck at Stendhal this year.

“We are so happy with what is on the bill this year and while I don’t want to single any others out above anyone else, I have to say on a personal level how incredibly excited and proud we all are to have secured the Wailers to headline the Saturday.

“This band played a key role in composing and releasing some of the most iconic tracks in the entire history of music and to have them play Stendhal is an absolute honour.”

In closing Ross added: “A massive thank you to everyone who has bought tickets to the event this year so far, ticket sales have been really good this year to date, if they continue to go like they have been we expect to be announcing a second sell out year in mid-July.

“So with that in mind, if you haven’t got your tickets yet, please do so soon to avoid disappointment as projections are suggesting that like last year, we will sell out.”
