ENNIO MORRICONE will conduct his film music live in Dublin at the 3Arena on February 15th 2019. The concert is part of his ‘60 YEARS OF MUSIC’ WORLD TOUR and will include Portuguese fado legend Dulce Pontes as a special guest singer.
The production has been playing to sold-out arenas, across the continent and received standing ovations and overwhelming critical acclaim in the media. This concert in Dublin will be the very last time Maestro will bring his music to Ireland, after his earlier concerts in September 2017 and February 2016.
Ennio Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television as well as over 100 absolute music works. Highlights include his scores for Once Upon a Time in the West, One Upon a time in America, A Fistful of Dollars, The Untouchables and The Mission. Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly holds the number two position in the Top 200 ranking of best film soundtracks ever composed.
The performance in Ireland is part of an extended tour marking his 60-year Anniversary as a professional composer and conductor, comprising more than 50 concerts played in 35 European cities over the last few years. More than 650.000 spectators have visited the tour since its start in 2016.
In 2016, Morricone composed and recorded the score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, for which he received universal praise, including his long awaited Academy Award for Best Original Score, his sixth BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, and his third Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
That same year, Ennio Morricone also reunited with director Giuseppe Tornatore on romantic drama The Correspondence, starring Jeremy Irons. Its release was exactly 30 years after the 1986 release of “The Mission”, which also starred Irons. Morricone and Tornatore had previously collaborated on Cinema Paradiso, Malèna, The Legend of 1900, Baaria and The Best Offer.
Discussing his current tour, Morricone said: “Performing my work live in all these different cities for people of so many different ages and cultural backgrounds is an incredibly gratifying experience. This year I celebrate my professional career of 60 Years during which I composed over 600 works”.
“On this tour I perform a whole new program with new highlights. Of course there will always be the classic pieces from the great Sergio Leone westerns and The Mission. But overall the experience will be different this time. I plan to include music from my collaboration with Quentin Tarantino as well as a few works from the Leone Westerns that I have not included on previous tours. I will also have Dulce Pontes joining me on stage with her passionate vocals. Maestro Morricone will personally conduct the concert. The concert in Oslo will be performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and a choir of over 75 singers. The CNSO has had a long history of working with Maestro Morricone, having joined him on almost the entirety of his tour the past few years. They were also the orchestra on the recording of the music for The Hateful Eight, so the many awards this score garnered show the fruitful collaboration between the Maestro and this orchestra.
