Local music website Gigging NI have begun hosting live music events downstairs in Belfast’s oldest building, McHughs Bar.
McHughs Bar is of historic and architectural significance as the earliest known building in Belfast. The Victorian rendering of the front of the property contributed to the concealment of the bars true age until 1997. Now a grade ’A’ listed building, the old McHughs Bar has been sympathetically restored using historically correct materials and techniques. The renovation revealed that the interior had undergone many transformations through its life and the restoration to its original conditions took eighteen months.
Today, McHughs offer the best in local entertainment, food, drink and craic across three floors. The below sea-level basement bar presents the best of local bands throughout the week as well as themed nights each Saturday.
This new live music event is in addition to Gigging NI’s existing songwriter night in the Sunflower Bar, adding to the music website’s commitment to promoting local music. Editor Mark Dunn said, “I’m delighted to begin hosting some of Northern Ireland’s best local bands in one of my favourite music venues. McHughs has always been a venue famous for it’s intimacy and history, previously hosting bands such as Kodaline, Seasick Steve and Two Door Cinema Club.”
Rebekah Fitch will perform at McHughs Basement alongside ROE & Guests on Friday 6th April 2018. For more information and tickets, please click here.
